wedding wednesday

randy and i went cake tasting this past weekend, and it was so much fun!

first, we went to LivLee Bakery in thousand oaks, ca. it's a cute little bakery that's located in a shopping center that actually turned out to be quite nice. there we got to try vanilla, chocolate, champagne, and red velvet cakes along with different fillings and icings to mix and match. both randy and i looooved the champagne cake, and with a fresh strawberry filling it was to die for! we both quickly realized how kick ass cake tasting is.

after our appointment in thousand oaks, we jetted over to ventura to meet with jana of Jana's Creative Cakes. two words: holy. moly.

jana's cake was absolutely to die for! we tried vanilla, lemon, red velvet, and chocolate, and again were given an array of different fillings to try with each flavor. jana makes her cakes with more of a pound cake consistency, so they were plump and moist and dense. we knew after the first taste that this was it - this lady needs to make our wedding cake!

this is the craziest part - i am a total vanilla cake person; i could eat vanilla cake all day long if it wouldn't result in heinous weight gain. but, the two flavors that blew me away were the red velvet (her cream cheese filling was so sugary and delicious and went so well with the actual cake) and the chocolate, believe it or not! never in a million years would i have thought my wedding cake would be red velvet and chocolate. we picked a fresh raspberry filling to go along with the chocolate, and the whole cake will be covered in a white vanilla frosting.

after our appointments were finished, randy and i went to camarillo to hang out for a bit and grab lunch. we found this awesome bar/cantina called el rey, and were so blown away by their food! i had a farmer's market burrito, and all the ingredients inside were purchased from local farmers markets (hence the name). it had veggies inside that i didn't even know what they were, but it was so fresh and delicious. randy got a standard burrito with guacamole, beans, cheese, rice, asada, yadda yadda, and even his was sooo good! the guacamole was incredibly fresh and tasted like they just went out to the back and picked the avocados right off of the tree. the best part is that is was cheap - about $20 for the both of us. the vibe was also completely awesome, sort of a mexicali yet modern aesthetic. totally kick ass.

here are some goofy pictures of randy and i being tourists in old town camarillo. even though saturday was a pretty long day with our appointments and running around, it was so much fun to actually spend time near where we're getting married. i can't believe our wedding is only 5 and a half months away! and now the thing i'm looking the most forward to is eating our damn delicious cake!

by the way, look at how HUGE our godson is! he is only 3 months old! gigantic baby boo!

wedding wednesday

bridesmaids: women a bride chooses to stand by her at her wedding. a bridesmaid not only supports the bride, but also the marriage that the bride is about to enter into. [my own definition]

i've been in wedding planning limbo for a little while, so i've been trying to get stuff together for my bridesmaid's gifts.

i can't tell you how many times i have googled "bridesmaids gifts," "gifts for bridesmaids," "unique bridesmaids gifts," and every time i'm directed to a cheesy site that sells heart-shaped measuring cups or cheap wax candles in the shape of autumn leaves.

but one day, believe it or not, i actually found a cool bridesmaids gift guide.

definitely worth checking out!

viva lost wages

i was in las vegas this week! although it wasn't a pleasure trip, it did mark my very last trade show of the summer season, so i am happy about that :] (to recap, since june i have been to dallas, chicago, san francisco, new york, and finally vegas)

here are some photos from the trip:

about a year ago, i posted about trade shows, what they are, and why i have to go to them. the short story, in case you don't want to read through that again, is that the company i work for sells products to retailers (stores you buy stuff from). the way they find our products is by attending industry shows. hundreds of wholesalers (what my company is considered) display their products in hopes to sell them to retailers (stores). this show in vegas is pet-specific (SuperZoo), so we had all of our pet products on display for retailers and stores to check out!

because SuperZoo is for all things pet, there are also actual animals on display! i thought this chameleon was super cute

we do get to squeeze in some fun! my little sephora haul [clinique chubby stick in #10 bountiful blush; sephora bronzer in los cabos; sephora concealer in 05 porcelain; tweezerman travel nail file]

i'm thinking this may be a new look for lilly.. except she'd have pink accents :)

our neighbor. the girls in the booth next to us brought their puppy, which made me miss mine so much!

my pretty baby girl :) wearing her new jacket courtesy of green monster!

wedding wednesday

randy and i decided we wanted two 'performers' for our wedding: a guitarist to welcome guests, perform at the ceremony, and during cocktail hour..
and then a DJ to spin during dinner and the reception.

randy has a friend who is a DJ and has graciously agreed to work at our wedding, but we don't have any guitarist friends, so i consulted google.

somehow i happened upon this website called gig masters. it's actually a really cool thing - it's a website where you can hire performers of all different sorts - bands, acoustic singers, DJ's, balloon twisters, belly dancers..

you set up your event and give some basic details, and then you can select artists to get quotes from. most of them responded fairly quickly, in my experience, but it's cool because it puts everybody side by side and you can accept or deny people's offers. each artist's profile lists details about them like their musical influences, and they can even post videos or tracks of samples of their work. there are standard reviews of each performer, but you can also see the events they have booked in the past and future through gig masters.. so if they don't have any jobs coming up in the next few months, you know they probably suck..

if you're looking for any performers for your wedding and haven't had luck with referrals, i highly suggest checking our gig masters!

*i was not asked to write this review.
